Aaaah, so much happened this week, including the previously unexpected start of class. Well, at least of the literature and writing class that Midd requires of us here. I have around another week before any of the other classes begin meeting - meaning a bit more of this semi-vacation, semi-reintroduction to homework, semi-feeling-like-a-freshman mode into which I've fallen. I'm enjoying the Scrittura class (that's the Midd one, it means writing, and since I don't know the official name, I'll just go with that) much more than I had expected. I've really been missing literature so far at Middlebury, as it was often my favorite course in highschool (barring European History) and I haven't had an actual lit class in essentially 2 years. This one will be focusing solely on writing about Ferrara or by Ferrarese novelists and poets, which will be a very insightful source for learning more about the culture and history of this place. However, it actually requires daily homework and written papers, unlike most Italian university classes. Meaning that I have to make this post short and go back to reading poetry and working on the first critical essay I've ever written in Italian! Yay for challenging assignments...
I just wanted to put up something here to say that although the week started out pretty rough (overload of information!), the many messages and videos from friends and family on my birthday were very encouraging, and I ended up having a pretty good week. I will write a more detailed post either tonight or tomorrow afternoon, I think. If I get out of the habit of writing here regularly, this blog will go by the wayside, and that won't be so good for staying in touch with people, now would it? I'll see what I can do, and get to actually organizing my life into some greater sense of order soon. Well, as much as I can manage only just beginning my study abroad experience in such an unorganized place as Italy, that is...
